Refurbishment and reimaging of Chaaya Citadel Kandy

Please be informed that following a recent review of the refurbishment plans for Chaaya Citadel Kandy a final decision has been taken by the hotel management to extend the scope of the refurbishment there by involving a majority of the public spaces and all the rooms of the hotel in the refurbishment plan.

Given the interruption that this would cause, the hotel management decided against partial operations and a Phased refurbishment and instead, will close the hotel for business from 1 May until 30 September 2012.

The significant investment being committed will upgrade and re-image the hotel to the 4-star deluxe grade.

Built as a tribute to the historical hill capital of Kandy, Chaaya Citadel is a true haven of peace and tranquillity surrounded by nature. Southwestern corner of the lake makes way- a just a few steps - to the garden of the Temple of the Tooth. Udawattakele Bird Sanctuary with its densely wooded green hills looms over the red tile roofs and golden canopy of the Temple of Tooth. Located within the courtyard of the Temple of Tooth are Tourist Office and Cultural Triangle Office.

Kandy is home to a multitude of medieval Buddhist temples. Great Kandy Esala Perahera Pageant, the yearly grand homage-rainmaker celebration in exposition of Tooth Relic of Buddha around the city is one great methodical riot of fire, light and sounds of fire play dancers, drummer dancers, dancers, drummers, piper dancers, pipers and caparisoned elephants.

Kandy is the transportation hub of the Central province; it is also the gateway to the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka. The Good Shed bus station and railway station have huddled up to each other at the southwest corner of the city center.
